There are two ways to read the Tarot. One way is by reading Reverse Cards and the other is called the Dignity Method. I use the Dignity Method which will be explained in full later on…
The Reverse Cards Method is very popular and a good way to begin when you’re starting out. Basically, if a Card is selected upside down it is called a Reversed Card. When this occurs, it means a couple of things. Firstly, the Card is highlighted within the reading. It draws more attention to itself, and says, “Hey, look at me!” And in doing this it adds more illumination to the reading.
The second thing a Reversed Card indicates is the need to read its meaning in Reverse. Notice how I said Reverse and not Negative…This is so because many of the Cards in the Tarot are read using their Shadow interpretations in the Upright position. So, in these cases their Reversed meanings would be Light. When learning to read the Tarot it is important to understand each Card’s whole personality; the “goods” and the “not so goods.” With this knowledge you will see clearly what the Card is trying to express.
When you select a Reversed Card, or one that doesn’t say positive things, don’t freak out and think that all is lost! Instead look at what you can learn from its message. After all, the Tarot is meant to help guide our way.
