The Basic 3-Card Layout is, in my opinion, the most important and versatile Tarot Spread of them all. In itself it answers questions and will also show situations how they are at present. It is a vital part of learning the Tarot because it keeps everything simple and clear.
When starting out learning the Tarot most people want to jump right in and do a Tarot reading. If this is you, please know you are not alone. Everyone just wants to “know”! The Tarot’s intrigue will draw you in every time.
When I began learning the Tarot, I too skipped over the 3-Card Layout and went straight for the Celtic Cross. I used only 1 Card in each position back then. However, quite honestly, I too, was overwhelmed with the Celtic Cross initially. Until you have a good grasp of all the basic meanings of each Card a large spread will just confuse you. That said, let’s begin to look at the treasure that is the Classic 3-Card Spread.
The Classic 3-Card Spread is a very useful spread for beginner Tarot readers. It is simple as it utilizes only 1 Card per position. It is the Mini Spread that packs a punch. It illustrates:
Position 1 The situation as it currently is.
Position 2 Illustrates what occurred that brought about the current situation
Position 3 Offers insight into the likely outcome of the situation, if the querent continues down this path.
I encourage all people new to the Tarot to utilize the Classic 3-Card Spread. It’s a fantastic way to get answers to all your burning questions even as a beginner. Most of all I love it because it is a fantastic way to practice.
