When positive The Empress is one who brings joy and care to others.  The Empress card is ruled by Venus, so all things feminine are highlighted here.  She portrays emotional and financial growth and prosperity, and the ability to give and receive love.  She symbolizes domestic harmony, a heightened affinity with the natural world, fertility, birth and marriage, and above all motherhood.

When a Tarot card presents in the Reversed position it acts like a red flag signifying that the energies are having some trouble expressing themselves.  Here we see The Empress having a bad day!  Oftentimes this can come about when she has been doing just too much for everyone else and has run out of juice for herself. 

The Empress Reversed reminds us that the feminine energy is lovely, loving and very much loved.  She advises that the nurturance and care we give to others we also need to give ourselves.  Sometimes we need to take the time to fill our own cup to be our best selves.

Another facet of the shadow Empress may depict the darker side of feminine energy.  Unfortunately, this may see her self-expression being less than fabulous.  Jealousy, moodiness and being quick to anger are examples.  As are becoming overprotective and possessive.  Domestic disharmony and lack of growth may also be seen when ill-dignified.

Whether she represents another person, a man’s feminine aspect, or is acting as a mirror, the required actions are the same.  If the Empress Reversed has found you today, she offers you the remedy of taking a step back.  She encourages you to take some time to reconnect with the soft strength found within the feminine expression.  Spend some reflection time in nature, and remember that ultimately the feminine energy doesn’t need to force outcomes.  Ultimately, she attracts to herself what she needs.
